Medicare

Medicare, made simple

Medicare has more moving parts than it should: Parts A, B, C, D, Supplements, star ratings, enrollment windows. We sort through all of it with you, compare real options across top-rated carriers, and help you land on a plan that actually fits your doctors, medications, and budget. At no cost to you.

The basics

Two paths through Medicare

Once you have Original Medicare (Parts A and B), you choose one of two ways to fill the gaps it leaves.

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

A private-plan alternative to Original Medicare that typically bundles medical, hospital, and often prescription drug coverage into one plan, frequently with extras like dental, vision, hearing, or a fitness benefit. Usually a low or $0 monthly premium, with a network of doctors and copays for visits.

Medicare Supplement + Part D

A Medigap policy pairs with Original Medicare to cover most of the out-of-pocket costs Medicare leaves behind (deductibles, coinsurance), so you see almost no bill at the doctor. You'd add a separate Part D plan for prescriptions. Usually a higher monthly premium, but very few surprises, and you can see any doctor who accepts Medicare nationwide.

Neither option is automatically "better," it comes down to your doctors, your medications, your budget, and how much you travel. This is exactly what a free comparison is for.

Timing

When you can actually enroll or make changes

Medicare runs on set windows. Missing one can mean waiting almost a year, or paying a lifelong penalty.

7-Month Window

Initial Enrollment Period

Starts 3 months before the month you turn 65, includes your birthday month, and runs 3 months after. This is your first chance to enroll, and it's a good idea to start the conversation early.

Oct 15 – Dec 7

Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)

Every fall, anyone on Medicare can switch Medicare Advantage plans, switch Part D plans, or move between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Changes take effect January 1.

Jan 1 – Mar 31

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment

If you're already on a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one more chance to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or move back to Original Medicare.

Anytime

Special Enrollment Periods

Certain life events, like moving, losing employer coverage, or a plan leaving your area, open a window to make changes outside the usual dates.

Mistakes we see

The most common Medicare mistakes

Not checking the pharmacy list

A plan can look great on price and still cost you hundreds more a year if your specific medications aren't on its formulary.

Assuming last year's plan still fits

Premiums, drug formularies, and networks can all change year to year. A plan that fit perfectly in 2025 might not in 2026.

Waiting too long to start

Missing your Initial Enrollment Period can mean a lifelong late-enrollment penalty on Part B or Part D. Starting the conversation early avoids that entirely.
